What’s happening in Dundee? Q and A with Gary Black.

With over 30 offices across Scotland, we see a wide range of property trends such as prices and selling times, varying greatly from town to town!

This month, we caught up with Gary Black, the local director in Dundee to ask him a few questions:

How long have you been working in Dundee for?

I personally grew up in Forfar, then moved to Dundee in 2002 so I have been here for 17 years and know the area like the back of my hand.

Back in 2018 we moved into our new City Centre premises which is the home to four of us covering both the Dundee and Angus area. We mainly specialise in residential property valuations and predominantly Home Reports although we carry out property surveys and valuations for many different purposes.

How have you found the Dundee property market recently?

The market is buoyant in general, like elsewhere in Scotland there is a shortage of available properties to buy. Traditional inner city flats can buck this trend and can take a bit longer to sell due to the number of similar properties on the market.

However, in general, prices have increased through 2019 which is always good news for home owners looking to sell their properties.

Have you got an interesting fact about the Dundee property market that we might not know?

The selling time for properties are some of the quickest in Scotland. It’s hard to give a reason for this, but it is probably due to an increasing level of demand and an under supply of properties.

How has the new V&A affected Dundee?

The new V&A has been great for Dundee! All of the media publicity has increased investor activity in the city, such as buy to lets, HMOs etc.

From an investors point of view, Dundee is good value compared to other university cities like Edinburgh and Glasgow.

Gary Black is our experienced local Director so give him a call, drop him an e-mail or pop in and ask about our specialist Home Report service or any other property related matter.
