Ready for the starting gun in Dundee and Angus!
As Director of our Dundee Office and a Chartered Surveyor specialising in residential properties my day to day work activities changed dramatically on 23rd March 2020. As we are all so painfully aware, the property market, along with the entire country, was put on lockdown. More than 8 weeks later, as we approach the end of May, we are beginning to think about the end of the initial phase of dealing with the Coronavirus outbreak. Scotland’s First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon, has outlined a plan to begin easing restrictions from 28th May which will see the first tentative steps taken to reawaken Scotland’s economy.
Adapting to change
Working practices will change for the foreseeable future due to social distancing both in our offices and on-site as we inspect properties. During this time Allied Surveyors will continue to prioritise health while providing our clients and customers with the efficient service they expect.
However, I am confident that the residential market in Dundee and Angus will recover slowly but surely from the shutdown. This was the experience after the recession of the late 80s/early 90s and after the Global Financial Crisis of 2008/9.
I have been really encouraged in recent weeks to learn of deals that have somehow got over the line and hearing from agents who are fielding queries from clients wishing to both sell their own property and view available properties.
We enter an uncertain time on so many fronts, but one thing is certain – life will go on and we will get over this. Properties will be bought and sold and individuals, households, businesses and indeed whole nations will adapt to the new normal, whatever that looks like.
