Whiteburn snaps up iconic March Street Mill site

Allied Surveyors Scotland can confirm Whiteburn, an award-winning residential developer, has acquired March Street Mill in Peebles from Moorbrook Textiles for an undisclosed sum.

The 5.6-acre site is a former woollen mill situated in the centre of the Scottish Borders town and dates to around 1884.

Moorbrook stopped production on the site in 2015 following a period of sustained losses at the mill.

“March Street Mill is an iconic site with tremendous potential in the heart of Peebles and we look forward to seeing Whiteburn’s development plans unfold,” said Allied Surveyor’s director of commercial agency (east), Iain Mercer.

Edinburgh-based Whiteburn won the Place Making Award from Scottish Borders Council in 2022 for their Caerlee Mill, Innerleithen development, creating a thriving community and development which connects with the wider town

Managing Director, Eve McCurrich, said: “March Street is a fantastic location, a short walk from the High Street and amenities of the town, it is a true 20-minute neighbourhood. We look forward to engaging with all key stakeholders as we develop our proposals to create a vibrant and beautiful place.”

Ian Laird of Moorbrook commented: “We are delighted that Whiteburn has become new owners of March Street. We have been impressed with what they have done in the past and we are confident that their plans will consider the breadth of local interests and needs.”
