Q&A with Nick Davis

Saltcoats

This month, we caught up with Nick Davis- local Director at our Kilmarnock and Saltcoats offices- to ask him a few questions about his role at Allied Surveyors, how his local property market is performing just now and what his predictions are for the future:

Q: How long have you been working in the property sector for?

A: I’ve been working in the property sector for about 6 years’ now, so I’ve made relatively quick progress over that time. I think this is due to the fact I spent 11 years conducting asbestos surveys combined with investing a lot of time into distance learning and on the job training.

Q: When did you join Allied?

A: I joined Allied back in June 2019, which doesn’t seem that long ago- especially because 2020 wasn’t a ‘normal’ year for anyone!

Q: What does a typical day look like for you?

A: A typical day is usually a combination of carrying out Home Reports, Mortgage Valuations, Energy Reports and of course keeping my existing clients happy and trying to pick up a couple of new ones too!

Q: What does the property market in Kilmarnock & Saltcoats look like just now?

A: Since the restrictions lifted back in July, there has been a real surge in enquiries which is the result of pent-up demand caused by people getting fed up of their current properties or they need more space. The lack of stock is driving property prices up and because of that we are seeing them sell quicker and for prices above the Home Report value.

Q: Do you think we’ll see the market start to slow down soon?

A: I think we’ll continue to see this surge until lockdown eases, at that point, more properties will come on the market and the prices will start to flatten back to traditional values. As long as the banks and lenders continue to let people borrow then we shouldn’t see this slow down.

Q: Bar from working, how are you keeping yourself active during lockdown 3.0?
A: Well, it’s been a combination of home schooling (if I manage to get a bit of time before work or at lunch!) and trying to keep active by doing online workouts. At weekends it’s all about trying to keep the kids happy- so that means trying to get out and about or if the weather is bad, we need to get creative about how we are going to entertain them!
