Allied Surveyors Scotland Champions the Next Generation of Surveyors

On Friday 22nd August, Allied Surveyors Scotland reaffirmed its commitment to the future of the surveying profession by hosting its #NextGen event, designed to inspire and support the surveyors of tomorrow.

The event welcomed members of the Allied Academy, including Graduate Apprentices, Trainee and Graduate Surveyors, to Herbert House for a morning of learning. Attendees gained valuable insight into the business, the breadth of career opportunities available, and the exciting future of the profession.

As part of the day, the group also visited The Old Schoolhouse, a local project by Kelvin Properties. The redevelopment showcases how older buildings can be sensitively repurposed into modern residential dwellings, blending traditional character with contemporary design. The visit offered a powerful example of the role surveyors play in shaping sustainable, vibrant communities while preserving Scotland’s architectural heritage. The team were also joined by Scott McAuslan MRICS, from the Land and Development department, who shared his expertise and insights into the world of development appraisals, along with examples of key projects he has been involved in.

Allied Surveyors Scotland maintains strong links with universities and currently has four students in placement roles and four apprentices, gaining invaluable hands-on experience across the business. These placements form a cornerstone of the firm’s investment in future talent, helping students bridge the gap between academic study and professional practice, while building their confidence and capability.

The firm’s commitment to developing surveyors extends well beyond placements. Allied Surveyors Scotland supports individuals through every stage of their career journey – from graduate entry, right through to the Assessment of Professional Competence (APC). To strengthen this pathway, the firm has partnered with Property Elite to provide additional APC support, ensuring trainees receive the highest standard of professional guidance on their journey to becoming Chartered Surveyors.

As a multi-disciplinary business, Allied Surveyors Scotland also offers its NextGen the opportunity to explore the full spectrum of surveying – from commercial and residential valuation to building consultancy, land and development, and agency,  helping future surveyors to find their own niche within the profession.

Kevin Keane FRICS, Director of Operations at Allied Surveyors Scotland, commented:

“We are passionate about making surveying accessible and attractive to the next generation. Our #NextGen event, university placements, and site visits to live projects like The Old Schoolhouse are all part of our wider commitment to nurturing future talent and supporting them all the way to Chartered status. The profession has an exciting future, and we want to make sure young people see the opportunities available to them here at Allied Surveyors Scotland.”

Our #NextGen initiative is about inspiring talent today to become the Chartered Surveyors of tomorrow.

Our 2025 Allied Academy intake is now full and well underway, but keep an eye on our website and social channels for future opportunities. In the meantime, we’re always happy to chat about Allied Surveyors Scotland and the surveying profession.
